. AHarvesting Peanuts and Mi Cowpeas. During the uext two months the gathering of peanuts and cowpeas will occupy the atten* did tion of farmers at intervals. ern These crops are valuable and tru should be given every consider- skc ation at the proper time. Cow- 'n ' peas should be picked before too Pet much rain falls on them after kn< they ripen and if they are to be mil cut for hay it is necessary that the power be put in the field at the enrrAnf >!??? If allowed in? to stand much longer a large por- 8Cr tion of the foliage will fall off and besides this many of the wa peas will be shattered out in handling. Tu With the peanut crop it is 8ec equally important that they be handled judiciously. If,leftinthe as ground after they ripen the nut is bound to germinate, especial- bei ly if the weather be warm and me the soil moist. If such a condi tion exists it will be good-bye to peanut prospects. With the, ** ( Spanish peanut the hay can be IIO< easily saved by pulling up the Vines together with the nuts, > % 'i- | The whole plant can then be 1 ai housed if there is plenty of room, or stacks may be made out in tor the fields. Peanuts keep better *^ai than any other hay when out in ^h the weather and they can be ta- A* ken down and used as desired, the nuts can be picked off and the hay fed to the stock on the ^or farm. ^ The use of legumes for human e(* food as well as stock is becoming tlG1 generally recognized and they 111 1 are now r?m>rrtori OO ? *?* - .vg?uuu ?o uu^urta UI and essential to the general ad (lu< vancement, not only of the farm, Pei but of the nation itself.
