Overman, of that State, is to be the oration in chiet on this occa sion, and we have no doubt that he will hold steadfastly to one of the proudest traditions of North Carolina and defend the claim of that State to the nativity of Gen. Jackson. Appleton's "Cylcopaedia of American Biography'' says that Andrew Jackson was "born in the Waxhaw Settlement on the border between North and South Carolina," the log cabin in which he first saw the liyht beinj: "sit uated within a quarter ot a mile of the boundary between the two ? : _.1a1 i / ? uarounas, hiki me people oi tne neichb >rhood do not seem to have a clear id-a as to which province it belonged." But Jackson himself had no doubt whatever on this score. 'In a letter dated December 24, 1830, and in the . proc amation addressed to the A / 9 nullilieiH in 1832, audio his will, (ien. Tiiat ought to fix the place oi his nativity even it there we. e no corroborative details, oi which there are volumes, to show that Jackson was a South Carolinian. We do not know what Senator Overman will say, but it he has any sense ol humor whatever he will make the people of the Waxhaw Settlement appear very ridiculous to themselves as they are to all intelligent and in noeent bystanders.
