| The VOL. 2. NO. 88 SEMI-WEE The Antioch Ficnic?Fine Speecehs and a Sumptuous Dinner Leading Features of the Day. Editor Lancaster News: On last Saturday, as previously not ed in The News, a representative crowd from all over the country wa<< present at the Antiocli picnic, to enjoy the day. Very early in the dav the crowd began to grow, and by ten o'clock was becoming dense, at which hour the much beloved, learned and eloquent D. P. Montgomery whose boyhood days were spent in this community but who now is doing a great work in evangelizing the western portion ol these great United States, made his appearance on the grounds, as he was on his way to Fork Hill. No sooner had he entered the edge of the crowd than he was greeted by a great many of his old friends and brethren, and almost immediately the crowning feature of the dav was on. The Evangelist being introduced to the crowd, responded in a great lecture and held the great crowd spellbound for the space of one hour, and then they were no! satisfied, but insisted that he should go on ; but his time was up and he had to leave us. His theme was a great one, speaking as he did on the greatness of the country and Nation, on the things that contribute to the making of this country. He said, in part, this country is great because, "you people make it great, and some ot the things that have helped to make you a great, peo__ 1 _ il 1 1-* - 1. 1 .% pie are ine puDiic scnoois, ine moral status of the people against the hell begotten, nefareious whiskey question, and the religion of the crowning Lord Jesus Christ, the crown of all glory." He also warned the nation that a great and dangerous cloud is making its appearance, that ol the great influx of foreign immigration. That in the next hundred years, unless they are christianized and made to think and feel as we do, some ot our great great-grand children will bo Pagans, and the only saving power of this nation is in the evangelizing of those immigrants by >i T?. |Mrdi uui^ l/i/ iiir-iii iirpun, After Ihe great and beloved preacher had finished the crowd w?s invited into the church to hear an address on Masonry, delivered by the 11 * n. J. W. llamel of Kershaw. Mr. Unmet acquited himself with great honor, as lie always does on all occasions Immediately alter the speaking dinner was spread, and a^umptuous dinner it was, being characteristic of the people ot Antioch. After dinner the M isonic Fraternity met in their hall over the beautiful school building and conferred a degree on the ladies belonging to families of Masons. This picnic was a joint one ho tween the Masons and Sunday school, over wich I have the lionor of presiding. We have n flourishing Sunday School, in whicK. we not only have the lit tie children of the community but i< goodly number of th# vounl people and their fathers and J|othera. W. J. Long.
