Lancaster News: The i auguration of Georgia's new elected governor took place Atlanta Saturday and it is nc Governor Hoke Smith. Tl tact that Mr. Akin, who hi just been elected president of tl Senate, won by such a haudson majority, is one reason for tli belief, as it is a well known fa that lie is a staunch prohibitioi ist. * This is welcome news many of the people of the ptat as they believe that prohibitic will mean much for the stat In fact, they have no reason think otherwise. For in9tanc they fail to see how a city lit Macon can be injured by tl removal of her eighty bar room but on the contrary they belie^ it will be one of the greatei blessings that could tall to h lot, and we join with the poop of this city and the state in wis ing f<>r the certain aud speec removal of every bar room j Georgia. We have had our first taste watermelon for the season, hi as the lellow says, "it tastes 1 iI more." Watermelonswi'l soon b gin coming in in large quantiti and the price will he a little moi reasonable. Some very fine peacl es are on the market now, bi the price on them is rather hi$> also. The fact that the pea< crop is below the average th year will likely cause good prict all the season tor peaches ati watermelons also. Many farme who raise peaches and wa'e melons, even ou a small Scali find it pivs to have these as su plus cr?>ps, as they bring in ah of extra money during the sun mer when money is usuall scarce v ith the farmer. Of cours< those WjIo raise them on a larfi scale, some of them, make small fortune in one season. W have been informed that a larj stock compauy in the peac business in south f*aorcri? olA?r<= O nearly one hundred thousan dollars in one season. Ilard I comprehend but doubtless true. We believe that truck farmei in this section must realize goo profits from their sales, as thei is always a good demand fc vegetables and they sell at goo prices the entire season. Some < these truck farmers live seven miles frotn the city but the road ^ leading here are good and the | ?, V V/W.jAU.^V"~TT, ''-'WW1 ^ li^'" s tk "W T3E LA leave home rather early and get here in time to market their vegetables in the morning. No special id program has been prepared in o- this city and it is probable that is it will be a quiet daj here. The d- writer has an invitation to atjh tend a good old Georgia bai becue ie near here on that day. This n. means a pretty good program for t<> one day. At the same place last >d sear, several fights were included 11- in the program, which was more al than the guests had expected. iu We don't anticipate this part or with much pleasure and may decline the invitation with ie thanks. ' ie We are g'ad indeed, "Lancast trian," that Columbia has im proved her baseball team at lastj ie and started winning some games, is even if they win some of them ie Irom Macon, whom we are 16 anxious to see land the pennant, is We have always wanted to see ct Columbia second place with 11 * Macon first. When the Carolina to college teams come over here we e, root tor them, as they are usual>n ly composed of Carolina b >ys, e- but with the professional teams to it is different and we have to e, pull for Macon. It lookH very re much like Charleston or Jackson ,e villo will pennant this year, but s, we haven't given up all hope ot Macon winning yet. 9t Former Lancastrian. f"1" Macon.
