reason for his taking his life it is
supposed that he did so rather
than <erve the sentence, said to

to be imposed upon him. At the
lodging hou-e where he ended
his lite he gave the name of K.
J. Graham.
Highwayman Killed by Man
he Undertook to Hold Up.
Gnvsie, Ga., Nov. 4.?This afternoon
Davis Ritch, a young man,
started from here on his way
home. When about a mile from
town, Tom Taylor stepped from
behind a tree iwf cnnoti*

mule Hitch was driving by the
bridle, liitch opened fire on him
with a Winchester rille, which
lie was carrying in his buggy,
one shot taking effect and killing
Taylor instantly.
Taylor was about 21 years of age
and was under bond for the killing
of Hitch's brother last January.
Hitch came back to town
and reported what he had done.

The white graded schoo's of
Lancaster completed the second
month ot the present session last
Friday. The attendance at 'lie
cotton mills school has increased
so greatly during the past month,
owing t > a canvass in the community
in the Juterest of the
school by the teachers, that the
trustees have had to augment the
teaching force. .Miss Corrinne
Jones, of Lancaster, has been aded
to the corps, making four
| teachers now in charge of the
! mill school.
New pupils are also being daily
'enrolled in the colored graded
(school, since the cotton picking
season is about over. This
s diool finished its first month's
