Visitors other than Mr. fiance most, likely fell into he same error. Now, so far as the editorials complained of by Dr. Mell are ;oncerned, we have no ap ilogies ? make. Having seen in both the editorial and local columns of ; ie Greenville News that farmers were complaining of their treatment at the state institute and laviinr heard restvmsihle farmers >f Lancaster make similar complaints, we, as we had a perfect right do,made comment there3ii in these columns and invited an explanation from the Clem-on authorities. Weknewnothing personally about the mat tors complained of, but inasmuch as the charges were made by men of high character and undoubted veracity we deeme 1 it our doty Indirect attention thereto in the manner in which wo did. We nave since seen references in ether papers to complaints by farmers ol alleged poor treatment while attending the stUe nstitnte. He spoke, however, in highest terms of (he stock, farms, ect., which he saw at Clemson last year. McCor kle, now a resident of Chester, was presented by friends a few Jays ago with an elegant striking watch. The Chester papers this week give the following account of the presentation: If "all Ihe world loves a lover," it also delights in loyal friendship. Several weeks ago a plan was formed by his friends to give Mr Paul G. MeCorkle a handsome striking watch. The greatest secrecy was maintained and not a hint cf tho proposed gift was allowed to reach Mr MeCorkle. The watch, made by Paul Jeunnot, of Geneva, and purchased through our progiessive jewel er, Mr. J. C. Robinson and his expert assistant, Mr. Wise, ar rived several days ai:o. On the afternoon of August loth, while Mr. MeCorkle was in his nf]ir<> all unconscious of tho pleasure awaiting liitn, he heard a cordial greeting and upon turning from ihe telephone, was immediately presented by Mr. Dupre Anderson on behalf ot friends in Chester, Lancaster, Rock lltll and Charlotte with this elegant token of their regard. Overcome with amazement and appreciation.
