Like nial doctor and Billy Buck, Brown had to acknowledge. ie, too, waR barren of infor- j n on the subject. The candidates for state offices continue to fill appointments made for them by the executive committee. They are making practicallv the same speeches at every point, and as reports of their remarks have already more than once been published in these columns, it is not worth while to republish them now. Any new features developing from time to time will be noted. About the only unusual incidents in connection with tlie campaign that have occuned during the last few davs ''cropped out" at the Monk's Corner and King-tree meetings. At the i former place, last Friday, Mr A. O. Jones, candidate ror trov ernor, made the statement :hat J Mr. B. Freeman, representative ot a Bait more liquor concern? Charles li. Ross & Sous?told him that it was a common practice to pay a concession of ten per cent to the board of direcI tors, which was divided iquallx (among the members ot the ' board. At the Kingstree meeting day before yesterday Cantder, candidate for railroad commissioner, created somewhat of a sensation by "jumping on" Commissioner I Wharton. The incident is reporf1 ed by the Columbia Record as , follows : The feature of the day was Cansler's attack on Railroad Commissioner Wharton. He said lie Inmseit is lame m the leg, while Wharton is lame in the head. If not elected lie will work two more years and make enough money to run again. Wharton never had been commissioner ol the people and neve'- would he, as the railroads own him body and soul. lie again declared that Wharton i had given free passes to rural delivery delegates to Illinois. Mr. Wharton interrupted with j the remark that it was false and that any man who asserted it would have to stand under tha' allegation. He read Johnson's letter declaring that he had never received anv such letters from him and that Wharton had made j 110 offer ol free passer. Mr. Can-ler rushed to the front with a c >ntident grimace on his fane and read those words Irom Wharton's telegram irom Or aog burg, published in t lu-Green1 ville News of the 11th: ''As to 1 having givt 11 many pa-ses that b 1 not true " The candidates speak to-day at Marion.
