Hill Herald. Our contemporary's words are full of wisdom. Towns have been known to prosper and grow in spile of the failure of some of their business men to contribute anything toward their advance went, but such towns are excep tions to tlie rule. The material, moral and educational upbuilding of a community is indeed hard and laborious work where there is a lack of unanimity of action for the common good, 'ihere are, unfortunately, too many men in almost every town who are so intensely selfish that they are never known to lend a helping hand in any movement designed to promote the general welfare of the community. They invariably lag behind and allow others who may be imbued with public spirit to do all I he work ; but they are always careful to participate in any of Hie benefits which in a general way may reward the labors of their more enterprising and progressive fellow citizens. An ideal town is one in which every man cheerfully puts his shoulder to the v heel of progre ss. But there are Comparatively few ideal towns i:i this country. NEW USE FOB /MUSK-HATS. Our old friend .J. Musk-rat Cas k"y went out oi l he rodent raising business entirely too soon.? It will be recalled that soni" years ago, when he lived on B.-a? creek, near town, he opera'ed a fine mu?k-rat f irm, but he finally abandoned his unique enterprise bee-.use the then owners ol t'p old Three C's railroad would nut build a branch n ad up the creek I bottom where he had his skins s!a-ked well-nigh sky high. I'I was imprac'icab'e to get enough | wagons to transport the hides foj market?hence ihe abandonnient I o' the business. A* that time, however, th pelts or hides alone hud any market value. But condition* h.ivoj greatly changed since then.? i Now Ihe meat, as well as the pelts, commands <? good price?. ONE DRAWBACK TO A TOWN'S GROWTh. No town will become a good buFineiS ccnU-r so long as its business men rely on a few mer chants to make the effort to bring tfade to town. Too often the men in a lew lines ol trade are about the only ones that reaeh out after custom. Other merchants wait until the^e men induce t be people to come and cont nt themselves with trade that naturally drifts to tlrdr place. A public spirited man sliou.d ask himce!l it be is doing his part to attract people to come to town to trade in helping the entire business community, and no town is a success unless all lines are working to extend the trade as far as possible and trying to l>riutr larger territory in the circles in which Hie town is the business center.?Hock is a man named Mert Robbin?, of Maryland, who ships a barrel of musk rata a day. lie cleared last year over $3,000. It appears that those who eat musk-rats do not know them by that name, as they appear on ll o bills of faro in the fashionable hotels and restaurants as "swamp rabbits," or "black ducks."? The meat of the mu-k-rat is verydark, and the Times says "its flavor is as delicious as a rab bit's." The musk-rat is served in different ways, boiled, fried or baked. Why lie is not alsoserved iu soup is not slated. Col. Springs spends much 01 his tune in New York?wonder how he has his "swamp rabbits," j or "black ducks" cooked. AN APPRECIATED BOUQUET. The following generous words are from our esteemed coutem porary the Rock Hill Record :? Brother Connors, ol tlie Lancaster News, we take our hats < If to you lor the handsome way in which you have set yourself straight. The Record can take a joke all right, and we are not so serious all the time that we cannot make one now and then (as, for instance, about Col.
