tify, whereupon she was sent to
jail lor contempt of court. After
a short confinement she was
taken ba<*k to the magistrate's
otlice and then freely told what
she knew about the case.

Damage by Lightning.
A Bolt Injures One Person,!
Sets Fire to Lot of Cotton
and Paralyzes a Hog.
During it sturm last Sunday
afternoon tt b >lt of lightning
ptruck a pine tree near the residence

in the Taxahaw section, and
from the tree the electric flniri
was transmitted by means of a
wire fence to a hou*e in which
Mr. Blackmon had seventeen
bales ot cotton stored. The cot
ton was set alire and some ot it
considerably damaged beiore
the llano's could be extinguished
Mr. Blackmon will probably
lose one or two bales out of the
lot.
Miss Fanlkenberry, who lives
on Mr. Blackmon's place, was .
severely shocked by the lightning
and has not yet recovered Irom its
