THE NEW ORLEANS REUNION. -< - The reunion of Confederate or . veteran* held in New Orloms us, this week was one of the most lor successful ami pleasurable g?th ( rings th<? gallant old soldiers cSi have ever had. The city was w? beautifully decorated for 'lie* oc rai easion and splendid addresses "f were made by Gen. Stephen 1) j Lee and other distinguished peakers. In its report of the proceedings the Associated Press says: Richmond, Va.. was selected as the place for holding the next reunion, the choice being made by acclamation. The only competiut tor of Richmond was Binning se ham, Ala., but the sentiment in tu favor of Richmond was so strong lir that the advocates of Birmingham t- did now allow the matter to ' come to a vote and withdrew in tavor ol Richmond before a roll?? call was ordered. The fact that e the monument of Jefferson I)aiis vis is to he unveiled in Ricli mond next year was a potent iutluenco with many of the old soldiers. id The present officers of the or ganization were re-elected by acclamation, there being no nomir. inations made against any of them. }(j The reunion, viewed from a n. business standpoint, was tin eR eventful. The chief new measnres of importance to he adopted or were one which will recommend to the different States that pen i0 sioiiH fie paid to slaves now liv lf. ing who followed their masters jj. to the war, and one which doclaies in l'ivor of the setting tll apart ot one day in the year by each camp of the organization 1 ? for memoiial services in heliult ol the Confederate dead. 10 II.
