Good Roads. Mr. Belk's Article on the Subject Commended?A Novel Good Tool. Ed*tor News : As you lemember, ^oiiie time ago you published a piece on the need of good roads, by our esteemed Iriend, T. M. B. Many are I lit* compli ments tha' I h ive heard paid the article. There are three things that lie is certainly interested in : Good schools, good roads and being a bachelor. As to the las* ono some day lie may change his mind. Yesterday, on a trip Irom the Flint Ridge section, I struck in old Roi'key River near the old Flint Ridge 1*. O. Indeed, this is a lon?ly country. You travel tor miles seeing no farms and no houses. Suddently my horse shies. What do I see ? It is a new mail box tied by the side ol a pine. This reminded me that I was near a country where somebody lived. Soon I reached the little village ot Dwight. There J turned, taking the Chester avenue, that was one time called the Chesterfield Road, a name that must have been dropped.? As I turned on this avenue 1 soon found that somebody had been there on this section ot the avenue, 1 ;J miles from Dwight to Dixie. Soon 1 came in sight of the working men with two horse plow, with a new road tool, or at least new to me?a common goose neck plow, a piece of plank SxA inches attached to the foot of the stock, making a good scraper .The entire road is graded from ditch, made higher in the middle. It surely is a pattern and the overseer and hands as well deserves credit lor the good wotk done. l,et fiood roads be the watch word, for this is something needed. W. P.
