"Legislative Snap Shots" By Representative Foster? The Southern to be Made to Give Lancaster a Decent a. i _ 11 < jL^epoi otate colleges 10 I lave Christmas Holidays ?G e n e r a 1 Summary of What the Legislature is Doing. I have introduced a bill requiring the Southern Railway company to build a suitable Ire ?ht and passenger depot at Lancaster. The depot iH to be completed within lour months. 'lhe Judiciary committee of the Senate made a favorable report on the House bill to prevent "bucket shops". This is a good indication for the success of the bill The bucket shops have done a deal of lobbying to defeat tlie bill. The Senate passed the House bill giving the state colleges ten days Christmas holidays. The Winthrop girls petitioned the Legislature to pass the bill. Senator Tillman made a hard effort to have the senate kill the bill. The bill to require trustees of schools to be elected b y the pa trons was defeated. The House refused to exempt the militia and cotton mill operatives trom road duty. Mr. Irby of Laurens could not get but six votes on his proposition to put the counties in the fertilizer business. There are a number of bills looking toward carrying into effect biennial sessions. The house repealed all special courts for Common Pleas. The House parsed a strict bill against hawkers and peddlers of medicine. The bill requires a license of .$500, antl the medicine sold to be examined by a physician and the contents printed on the label of the bottle orpackago. In my next letter 1 will discuss the features of the new (lis peusary bill and the Morgan local option measure. It now appears that there will be no change in the dispensay. The Senate lias a majority in favor of the dispensary, and will certainly prevent any legislation hostile to the law and the House will not pass any new dispensary bill. * Mr. Sanders of Spartanburg ha6 two bills to prohibit gambl ing. The house passed the measure, but the Judiciary committee ' as made an unfavorable report.
