A Case in 'Which the Blood
Hound Did Effective
Work.

There comes to our tablo a
fine illustration of the power of
a dog's scent.
A few days ago Bertha, the
Dretlv tour-year old daughter of
John C. Putnam, of Mill Vi11

Night and day the hunt was
continued, but not a tr.ice of the
little one could he discovered.
The parents were in despair.
It was feared that the child had
been kidnapped. Finally, the
lather, in desperation, suggested

could find some trace. Anxious
to do anything that would in the
least relieve the father's mind,
