GENEVA FORGES AHEAD ON QUALITY FIRST ACTION TEAMS
Five teams of Geneva associates have
been busy since January implementing the
Quality First concept to solve numerous
quality and safety problems.
The first team was formed to address
loom roll build and handling procedures.
The team successfully reduced excessive
build on looms, which had caused roll run
problems on cloth room inspection frames
and also had contributed to seconds.
First Quality First Team: Buddy Aughtman.
Team Leader and Sulzer Tech; Dale McCollough,
Cloth Handler; Diana Helms. Secretary and Cloth
Inspector; David McQueen. Cloth Handler; Ernie
Sommerset. Cloth Roll Coverer; Troyce Crutch
field, Maintenance Tech; Irby McCollough,
Assistant Departmental Superintendent, weaving
second shift; and Max Padgett, Cloth Room
Departmental Superintendent.
Inital data compiled by the team show
ed that 35 percent to 50 percent of rolls
were unacceptable.
After weeks of work, the team deter

primary cause of the problem. So it
searched for new suppliers and began im

When implementation reaches the
halfway point, data collection will be

The team’s safety projects have includ

eliminated wet floors.
The Steering Committee also formed a

Using a statistical test to identify the na
