Service Available
Columbia, S. C. ? Taxpayers in the
_ Clinton area can get quick answers to
their tax problems by calling the Internal
Revenue Service without having
to pay long distance charges, H. M.
McLeod, District Director of Internal
Revenue for South Carolina, announced
today. These residents can contact the
IRS by calling 1-800-922-8810.
This new phone service is available
on a year-round basis to help taxpayers
in all their dealings with the IRS. Although
help is as near as a telephone
^ with the new system, McLeod said most
taxpayers should be able to prepare
their own return by following the stepby-step
instructions that come with
their Form 1040, If taxpayers need
additional help, they can call the IRS
via the toll-free telephone service.
The new service will also enable
taxpayers to get answers to questions
on wage and price controls without
having to write or visit an IRS office,
McLeod said.
? Taxpayers will be able to place tollfree
calls to IRS Monday through Friday
from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., McLeod
said.
