a one-day training seminar
especially designed for line supervision
at Piedmont Tech recently.
The seminar, entitled "Motivation
and Leadership," was conducted
by Dr. Thomas H. Lawrence,
President of a Missouri
consulting firm.
Subjects covered by Dr. Lawrance
included the Demands on the
Manaeer How to Mntivntn PonniA
The Problem of Temperament,
How to Predict Human Behavior,
1' and others.
Throughout his daylong discussions,
Dr. Lawrence emphasized
that "the difference between success
and failure is only a matter
of a 'hair's breadth'?or tremendous
trifles." "Failure is not comprised
of the big things that we just
couldn't do. Rather, it is made up
of those little things that we could
have done, but just never did."

Safety Is A Necessity
Selling ideas is very much like selling
merchandise. For either, there
must be a need. Then there must be
an explanation of the product, and an
acceptance on the part of the buyer.
Without a doubt, there exists a need

plant, it's part of our job to sell you
on the idea of safeguarding yourself
in every possible way ... to convince
you that creating a climate of safety
is for your good.
So we talk safety, but at first you
may not understand. We talk safety
until you do understand, but you may
not act. We keep talking safety until
you do act, but you may not act again.
In fact, we can't ever quit talking
safety, because we must be certain
that you continue to act safely!
We do everything we know of to

but that is worth little until we persuade
you that your own safe practices
will help prevent accidents to yourself
and others. That's why we keep everlastingly
at this business of safety.
