CARDING: Thais machinal ara cards.
In carding. the picker lipi run through
a (cries ul cylinders and comb like lcclli
winch remove wasta matter and tangled
short libers, and makes tha remaining
libers somewhat parallel. The libers
coine from the last cylinder in a filmy
web. The web is drawn through two
rollers thut reduce it to a rope-like strand
called sliver (sly-vcr). The sliver is
automatically coiled into the huge cans
ihown here.

COMBING: The comber ii used onlv in
producing the highest quality yarns.
This process combs out undesirable
short libers, doubles several slivers and
draws the libers out still more.

SPINNING: The last process in producing
ytirn it the spinning liimt. Mere
tie bobbins of roving are given a finer
drewing out. and a precila degree of
twiit. The (witling is done automatically
and is determined by the specification
of the product and its end use.
