Your
Social Security
Question: I have never
worked under Social Security,
but for the last 4 years I
have taken care of young
children in my home while
their parents worked. I get
about S750 each year from
this. Should the parents of
the children have been reporting
the amount they paid
me as wages?
Answer: No, you are selfemployed.
If your profit from
this business is $400 a year or
more, you must, as a self-employed
person pay your own
social security tax. The internal
revenue office will
furnish you the necessary
forms to complete.
Question: My husband and
I separated in 1952 and I just
found out he is receiving a
social security payment based
on his work. I was 62 in October
1960. Can I get a social
security check as his wife,
even though we don't live together?
Answer: Yes. provided neither
of you have obtained a
divorce. The fact that you are
separated does not prevent
you from getting checks as
his wife. You should visit
your social security office at
once.
Question: I am 40 and
worked under social security
until 1948. when I had to quit
because of my disability. 1
want to know if I can draw
disability checks now.
Answer: If you worked
under social security for 5
of the 10 years prior to the
time you became disabled,
