(gsMr?* VOL. 9, NO. 5 PUB -LYDIA'S TW The management of Lydia Cotton Mills will be host to all Lydia employees and members of their immediate families at a Barbecue to be held in their honor on Wednesday, June 1st. The gala event is being held in recognition a n d honor of Lydia employees who recently worked over 2,000,000 manhours without a disabling injury. The dinner will be prepared by Mr. Walter T. Lynch of Mountville. Two programs and servings are planned since the mill will be in operation on this day. The first program and serving will be from 11:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The second program and serving will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Third shift employees may attend either event they prefer. Mr. William Fred Ponder. South Carolina Department of Labor Commissioner, will present an all engraved certificate award to the management and employees of Lvdia in recognization of their 1959 zero accident frequency record. "Cousin Bud" To Entertain "Cousin Bud" and his Countrv PniKine of W5PA.TV' will present their "Sitting Room" country musical program for the guests' listening pleasure before each platform program. Other prc-program activities include pony rides, merry-go-rounds, etc. Door prize drawings of identical gifts will be held at the conclusion of each event. Lydia Scouts Feted Superintendent D. H. Mr. Roberts, as did his predecessor. Vice President. J. B. Templeton, has honored the troop with an annual wiener roast beginning with his first year at Lvdia in 1953. The boys look forward to the annual feed of "Hot Dogs and Pepsis". Scoutmaster Ellis Huffstetler said at the event. The league comprised of Laurens Shirt Plant. Watts Mills. City of Laurens and Lydia Mills will play an 18 game schedule. Games beginning at 7:80 will be played on lighted McMillian and Watts Mill fields in Laurens each Wednesday and Saturday night. Joel Cox Chosen On All-Slar Team Joel Cox, Clinton High School senior, has recently been notified that he has been chosen to play in the North-South All-Star game in Columbia on August 5. The game is sponsored annually by the Shriners. Joel, a tackle on the North team, plans to go to Columbia a week and a half before the game. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel R. Cox, Clinton Mills. Truman 25 member unit. hi LYDIA MILLS, CLINTON, I XJRS BARBE Pools to Open May 30 Swimming Pools at both Clinton and Lydia Mills will again open for the summer season May 30 with the usual full staff of registered and trained life guards. Swimming classes will be conducted at the early part of the season at hours to be posted at the swimming pools. During these hours, only those taking lessons will be allowed in the pools. These hours, however, will be scheduled so as to interfere very little, if any. with qualified swimmers. "It is the sincere desire ol Clinton and Lvdia Mills tc teach every child in our communities to swim," says Claude Crocker, Industrial Relations Director of the Mills. "The same is true for any adults who cannot swim. Becoming an adept swimmer may at some time result in saving a life, perhaps your own. Certainly no fisherman or woman, and wc have many at both mills, should refuse this wonderful opportunity to learn to swim." Pools will be open throughout the week except Wednesday nights and Sunday. Daily nool hours arc from Q to 10 3 to B. and 7 to 9. Admission is 15 cents for children and 35 cents f o r adults. Season tickets may be purchased for $4.00 for children and $7.0(1 for adults from the life guards. W Carlisle Neely, Secretary of Clinton Mills and Assistant Secretary of Lydia Mills has been selected by members of the Lions Club to receive the annual "Citizen of the Year" award. He is to be honored at an early meeting of the club when a plaque will be presented attesting the honor. Neely. a long service Clinton-Lydia Official, was se1 lected for his outstanding efforts in doing preliminary work in connection with the Bailey Memorial Hospital, soon to be constructed and making the necessary financial arrangements. He serves as Chairman of the board of directors of the hospital. He is a member of the Lions 1 Club, immediate past chairman board of deacons First Presbyterian Church and a director of the Greater Clinton Chamber of Commerce. VACATION PLANS ANNOUNCED Plans for Clinton-Lydia Vacation closing were an nounced in the plants May 12th in order to give employees and their families ample time to make their own individual vacation plans. According to the announcement by President Vance, operations in the plants will cease at 8:00 A.M., Saturday. July 2. and will resume Mondav morning July 11th at 8:00 A.M. The requirements for earn1 ing vacation pay are the same as last year and the amount of i vacation pay will be calcu| lated at the same percentage as last year.
