I t 1 i.1 hi a iiumtr uui pt?i naps tne most unwelcome time for illness to strike is during the Christmas holiday season. Yet if we follow a few simple rules, mostly based on just good common sense, we can avoid colds, influenza and other common wintertime ailments and make life at this time of the year much more enjoyable for ourselves as well as other members of the family. Proper dress is most important at this time of the year. You cannot expect to work all day in a very warm building, then walk out into freezing or near - freezing weather witout additional clothing and avoid getting a cold sooner or later, usually sooner. Even short exposure to the cold, especially when your resistance is lowered by working all day, can be dangerous, so bring extra cold weather clothing with you even if you are planning to drive in a heated car. Proper diet is another important factor in keeping your resistance to germs at a high level. Perhaps the most neglected meal of the day is breakfast, regardless of what time you eat it. Your body has gone for its longest period of time at breakfast without nourishment, yet too many try to starve the body off with a cup or two of coffee and maybe a sweet roll or toast. Eat a good hot breakfast every day, particularly in winter time, and see how much better you feel. There is another thing about short-cutting on breakfast. ? ? 0 j?ScQtt_Atwat~r *7W nan Bratcher, President of the ( f an outboard motor, the first pri: [ealthy In V National st tistics show that people who skimp on breakfast have more accidents than those who eat a good one, and these accidents usually take place about three hours after you SHOULD have eaten a well-balanced breakfast. r-eopie wno eai wen oaianced meals all of the time and get the proper amount of rest seldom need to rely on vitamin and mineral pills to build up their bodily resistance. Wintertime there are good vitamin and mineral pills on the market which will help you get back to normal more quickly. Your best bet to ask your family doctor to recommend a good brand which will be the best for your own particular physical condition. The proper amount of sleep and rest also are important to good winter health. Eight hours of rest is needed bv the average adult. If you have trouble going to sleep, drink a glass of warm milk. Let's get one thing straight ?110 volts, and that's almost certainly what your house has at every outlet and light socket?can be fatal. It is true that most of the 1 lime an electric shock in the | home will only sting a little bit. But not always. i Suppose you want to plug in the electric heater in the bathroom and it has become slightly defective ? as can happen with the best heater. , If you touch the heater with one hand and accidentally touch the water faucet with the other ? particularly if vuui nanus are a ni.utr uamp --you may get a shock strong enough to kill you. Any time you are using any kind of electric appliance and at the same time touching any part of the plumbing, the heating plant, or a damp floor, you are in danger. Places where this danger is greatest are the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry. You'd better make up your mind to do without your radio when you are bathing or washing up.
