Experience and Prom- '
ises Pickons An Upto-date
Hostelry
It is with a groat deal of nride and ,
pleasuro that we announco to our
tunny rondors, nnd tho travelling public
in general, that tho 'Hiawatha"
hotel will bo opened for guests on
May 1st.
This houso fs modern in every particular,
and has forty commodious
guost rooms, is newly renovated and
newly rofnrnisbod, office, pirlois,
largo and commodious dining ball, 1
and servants quarters. A wide piazza |
rnns around the front and two Bides.
Public toilets and batlin are on every
floor and many of the rooniB havo private
toilots and baths attached. It is
fitted throughout with a water system
and is lighted with acetjlene, though
we aupposo the new management will
put in electricity. This place will
house a good many guests and it should
bo full at all times. Transient travel
could not find a bettor place to spend
Sunday than hore.
The people of Pickens should all pull
together and help to kewp the house
full of guests- it means much to the
merchants, in a business way, hut
much more to tho town at large, to
have a good hotel.
Good hotel accommodations can
a town to always he in tho "lime
light" and it can got no hotter advertising
than that given by tho traveling
public.
Ihe charms of Pickens aro many
and varid. For tho sick wo can offer
health; for tho tired, weary busv ono
wo can offer rest and to all wo can olTer
wholesome pleasuro. In scenery
wo eas sh nv as fine a.s tho world affords
and in water wo have the purest
there is.
Thore is a well at tho hotel that is
strongly impregatod with minerals. It
has been analyzed at Clemson College.
it 19 a specific for stomach and liver
troubles, and especially is it efficacious
in dyspepsia and digestive troubles.
The scenery from this point is grand
and ever-changing. The hills and
valleys, the innumerable mountain
streams, clear as crystal and abounding
with tho speckled trout, jumping
suckers and other species of the finny
tribo, the vast field.-- of waving grain:
the large orchards, always abundantly
laden with delicious frnit; tho pure
fresh milk, batter, chickens, eggs,
beef, and vogetablus. all help to prolong
life and uive a zest to tho weary
HOlll.
Pickens lies in tho foot lii 1 It? of the
mountains at an nltitmlo of 1102 feet
and has nice graded roadways loading
all over tho county.
Within a short distance is Table
J^ock.a famous mountain, ta famous

people; at an altitude of 3121 feet
with a good hotel at its base. It is

About twenty miles went is Whitewater
Falls, ono of tho grandest scenes
in tho south. N'onr Pickens is several
little mountains, such as Hrown's
mountain'" '' Potato Hill," " Woodall,'
mountain Six Mile, Wattecoo. Glassy,
Mauldin and Ariail, where picnics and
outing parties are frequent.
To (he rest or health seeker thero
is no place like Pickens. The "simplo 1
