AQUARIUS The truth is revealed. It’s good news for you and your associates. Your faith in each other has been fully justified. PISCES Keep going, even if it looks like there’s no way you can achieve your goals. Believe in miracles. Believe in a better world. it might mean something different. Take the word “difficulty” in the sentence, “I passed copy editing with some difficulty.” Let’s change it up a little. You may say, “I passed copy editing with some hardship.” But, in your dictionary you notice that “hardship” actually means, quoting straight from Webster’s here, “stronger in connotation, suggests suffering, privation or trouble that is extremely hard to bear” (i.e. climbing Mt. Everest) where as difficulty “is applied to anything hard to contend with.” And while the labs and quizzes presented in this class may cause some suffering, difficulty is probably the better choice here. Moving on to using proper grammar, a fellow classmate wrote the contraction “y’alP on the board in two ways. The normal way people spell it, “ya’ll,” and the correct way to spell it, “y’all.” This also draws a shudder when comparing it to the above phrasing of “more better.” If you’re given the gift of gab, then you should know how to use it properly. There are many sources out there for you to look into, and the easiest of all to access is a book that has been at your fingertips since you learned to walk. Never underestimate the power of a good book, especially the dictionary. Comments on this story? E-mail gamecockfeatures@gwm.sc.edu Start on Carlisle Street.
