USC Assistant Sports Information Director Gavin Lang said Monday that Spurrier was attending a convention in Dallas and was unavailable for comment. The Rock Hill native saw a slip in his interception total this season, but made up for it by surpassing the 100-tackle mark in the Gamecocks’ 12 games. “We had a different (defensive) scheme from last year,” Simpson said. “I had my hand on a couple « 4 (interceptions) this year. They just didn’t go my way.’ Simpson said he talked with NFL players and former Gamecocks Sheldon Brown and Dunta Robinson in making his decision and might end up signing with Brown’s agent. Notes: USC announced Monday that backup quarterback Antonio Heffner and reserve tailback Albert Ashcraft have decided to transfer. Heffner, a Memphis, Tenn., native, will transfer . to Tennessee State where he will continue to play quarterback.
