HUDson • conunucD froui 8 Free Times more recently, havinj been voted Columbia’s “Bes Local Rock Group of2005.” Hudson said the band expect to release its second album ir February 2006, with a CL release party following in Marc! at New Brookland Tavern. Hudson views singing anc physics as two different roads ir his life. “I enjoy them both, but I an scared to death of spending ; great portion of my life in a lab or in a cubicle,” he said. “I almost feels like creative murdei the death of my creativeness Singing is like my yin to the yan| of physics.” When people learn o Hudson’s “two entirely differen roads,” they are often surprised “The common Joe Blow oi the street thinks of Einstein o the nerd in the high-school lal when thinking of a physicist,” b said, “and to see a guy with a guitar, in blue jeans, jamming a ; great song that they can stomp their foot to — the thought of crossing those two worlds in ; many peoples’ minds is not i comfortable.” i To Hudson, the best thing in l his life is not his degree or his music, but his wife and child. I Hudson said his wife is his i biggest fan. “My heart skips a beat when i my wife hugs me every day and i whispers in my ear that she is , proud of me and supports me in all that I do,” he said. , Hudson has come a long way from his childhood dream of ; getting the chance to simply attend college. He took his life F day by day, step by step, and he never gave up. “I live my life for the Lord, my i wife, my child and the music,” he said. t Every aspect of his life weaves : itself into his songs, including his college experience. His favorite song is called “Where the Wicked Wait,” and as he explained, it’s about his life struggles as a Christian and a man in love. “Most songs are about relationships,” he said, “because that is something we all struggle with as human beings every day. The opposite sex is what baffles us. The greatest wars are waged and the most poetic lines are written for love.” If college students are to learn anything from Hudson, he wants them to realize that he was not brilliant, but determined. “What little I was given I took and ran with it and continue to run with it,” he said. “As tomorrows work force, we are in hard times. You must shine through so many other worthy applicants. The question is, 'what makes you shine?’ Once you find that, you are ready.” Comments on this story?
