CAROLINA B BRIEF Sports professionals to meet in Columbia More than 300 industry professionals in sport and entertainment will attend the International. Conference on Sport and Entertainment Business Nov. 9-12 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Hosted by USC’s Department of Sports and Entertainment Management, the conference will provide the opportunity for students, academicians and leading executives and practitioners from major corporations, organizations and governmental agencies to learn about trends and developments in the field of sports and entertainment. Speakers will include Don Rothwell, managing director of retail at NASCAR; Scott Bearby, associate general counsel of the NCAA; Mark Briggs, vice president of security and front of house operations for the New England Patriots; and Tom Lewand, executive vice president and COO of the Detroit Lions and Ford Field. Local speakers also are scheduled throughout the conference, including Chris Browning, president of Darlington Raceway. Sowell said to the staff that if Sowell could not be seen by a regular optometrist, that there would be “hell to pay.” The complainant said she could be seen at 4:30 p.m., and Sowell hung the phone up. While reporting officer R.B. Baker was gathering information for the report, Sowell showed up for the daughter’s appointment. Harrelson responded to a call of an odor of marijuana coming from a room. After knocking on the door, James Hall III, 18, answered. There was an odor of marijuana coming from the room, and Hall admitted to having marijuana. He produced a green leafy substance in a glass bottle, a purple-and-green glass bong, and a blue-and-green glass pipe. Four other occupants of the room — Harris Quinn, 19, Grace Aiman, 19, Jonathan Willimon, 19, and Kristi Johnson, 18 — admitted to smoking marijuana before Harrelson arrived, but Willimon and Johnson did not admit to possessing marijuana. Quinn and Aiman produced a green leafy substance, and Aiman admitted to having a container filled with wine. All five suspects were arrested and taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. State Case questions whether Graham can be judge WASHINGTON — Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is also Judge Graham on a federal military court — an arrangement that has drawn the Republican into a batde over the separation of powers. _ Questions raised in a hearing® Tuesday, when attorneys for Airman 1st Class Charles Lane argued that Lane was denied a proper appellate review of a cocaine conviction because Graham — assigned two years ago as a reserve judge — helped hear the appeal. It’s a contention the government denies. Lane’s lawyer, Maj. Andrew S.
