According to the report, The Facebook receives nearly 100 messages per day about offensive information or privacy issues. Depending on the severity of the offense, The Facebook will send a warning or take the user off the network, the Web site said. Users are taken off the network on a daily basis. Repeated ’ calls to Facebook executives by The Gamecock were unreturned at press time. Upon seeing the group, Student Government President Justin Williams, a fourth-year public relations student, said he was not surprised by the reaction the group had gotten. “It’s a reality that racism is very prevalent at the University of South Carolina,” Williams said. “I don’t think that’s a secret. A lot of times it’s under a rug, but it exists every day.” Comments on this story? Adam Piper, a fourth-year political science student. When a motion to end debate passed a narrow vote, second year political science Sen. Allen Klump exclaimed, “I am offended.” A main defense of the resolution from the sponsors was its placement during official senate proceedings. The devotion comes after a call to order, the roll and the Pledge of Allegiance. Sen. Charles Appleby, a graduate law student, argued that the optional nature of the devotion was a compromise in itself. “Anytime you speak on faith, you offend somebody. Isn’t it better ... not (to) have anybody offended at this point, rather than offending somebody every time?” asked Sen. Devon Bain, a third-year political science student and one of the resolution’s sponsors. Another resolution witn some controversial political and religious overtones passed through the Senate Wednesday as well. A resolution debated last week honoring the late Chief Justice Rehnquist was tabled again when it came to the floor. The resolution contains language about Rehnquist some senators billed as “right-wing propaganda.” Other business handled during the meeting included passing a contingency bill establishing a chain of command for presiding over the senate, and two other resolutions encouraging painting bike routes on campus and finding new solutions for problems arising with football tickets, respectively.
