entire campus system,” South said.
“For instance, students will go to
one site for access to grades, e-mail,
financial data, course, information
and community life. Right now,
there are VIP, Blackboard, listservers
and other individual and academic
resources. Once OneCarolina is
complete, it’s basically a one-stop
shop. You will be able to better
manage and organize all of your
electronic activities.”
Updating resources also pushes
us where we need to be in terms of
having the latest and best
technology on campus, South said.
A new teaching and learning
center is developing under
OneCarolina, which will focus on
improving instructional use of
digital resources and information
technology tools.
Sorensen said implementation
has also begun on an electronic
calendaring, unified e-mail and IT
directory system that will reflect
USCs One University, One
Network philosophy, according tc
a USC IT Bulletin.
Completion of OneCarolina
will produce a standard computei
system that serves the needs of each
department on campus, South
said. It will run off a single
database, Oracle, so departments
can easily share information and
communicate more efficiently.
South said IT services is in the
process of selecting a vendor to
provide software for the
development.
“Once the vendor is selected,
then we will know a lot more
information. This should be done
by potentially August 01
September. After this, the ball will
get rolling.”
It’s too early to foresee any
possible delays as systems are
upgraded, South said.
“Certainly, with any change,
there will be updates to be made,”
South said. “It’s just too early to try

academic and business initiatives.
ERP planning began in the
summer of 2004 and will continue
until the final vendor is selected.
