Eventually, Will Troutman, a student in one of Fleak’s first Spanish classes, invited the professor to a performance. Soon, Fleak was attending every Sunday. When cast members called him and asked him-to. be their faculty advisor, he was touched. “I felt God speaking to me to say yes, to advise such a wonderful group,” Fleak said. He said the most exciting thing about SNA was its following. “They outgrow every venue the) perform at,” he said. “They have an ever-growing fan base.” Wright said Fleak “never evei misses a show,” and that he treat: cast members the same way h< treats his students — he “reall) cares.” Wright said Fleak gets tc know cast members personally. “We’re going to miss him sc much,” Wright said. “Oh, we’re al so sad, just because he’s always been there for us for the past six years.” Wright said SNA members are happy for Fleak, although they are “definitely going to miss him.” “He’s really a great teacher. There was absolutely no discussion about my potential interest in the head coaching position at University of Virginia.” Odom also said Litdepage had called him a number of times during the last few weeks to discuss the NCAA Tournament selection process and to evaluate SEC teams. Pete Gillen resigned as Cavalier coach March 14 after one NCAA Tournament appearance in seven seasons. The Gamecocks, led by Odom, are coming off a season in which the team reached the NIT championship for the second time in four seasons. LaForgia was transported to detention. LaForgia said he and his friend, Krasny, had been drinking, but he wouldn’t say how much. He said he and Krasny had found the caulk on the cherry picker. “It was actually set up on top,” he said. “We had climbed on top of it.” LaForgia said he couldn’t recall why he and Krasny had originally decided to climb the cherry picker. “We were actually on the way home from watching the national championship in the Vista,” he said. Callcott House, at 1718 College St., is between the Horseshoe and Capstone College. LaForgia s^id he hadn’t intended to break the window. “The putty knife was an accident,” he said. “Actually, the putty knife had fallen from the cherry picker when we were trying to climb it.” LaForgia said he had been trying to “lob it back on there,” ■ SG Continued from page 1 for the last few years, he said, student “apathy” might lead to the eradication of the seats. “I don’t think we should take away their seats, but I think the students in those schools should be notified that they can. affect change,” Holt said. The appropriation of seats within the senate is tough to explain, Holt said, but it operates on the guiding principle of a population ratio similar to the U.S. House of Representatives. “It works out okay,” Holt said. “There was a math chairman that cultivated this formula which we adopted and bumped up the total number to 50 members.” Since its inauguration Mar. 2, Holt said, the senate has been making progress, electing a president pro-tempore and seven committee chairmen. It has also authorized a but that it “bounced off and hit the window.” Krasny said he had been uninvolved with the broken window. “I did the caulking,” he said. “I sprayed the thing with caulking, and that’s it.” LaForgia said first that he hadn’t realized the window hid been broken, but then he changed his statement: “I mean, we heard it break.” “Immediately after, we had planned to go to maintenance services in the morning and let them know about it,” he said. “It was an accident, and I plan to let the judge know that on the trial date.” LaForgia was released on a $1,087.50 personal recognizance bond later Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in Richland County court at 9:30 a.m., May 17. The Gamecock editorial board met Tuesday night to discuss whether LaForgia should resign as editor. The office would have a seven-person staff to help student organizations manage finances. “This is going to be huge for students,” Preston said. “The whole purpose of this is to allow student organizations to make the wisest decisions with money.” The office has no members, Preston said, but he is negotiating with the Moore School of Business to offer internship credit for service with the new office. He said he is now waiting on a reply from the school, but he is optimistic. “I think this will be something they support because this will not only give students a picture of what it will be like in the real world,” Preston said. “But will also benefit students and their organizations too.” Comments on this story?
