The complainant, who didn't see who performed the act, was treat ed by Boys State medical person nel. Reporting officer: A. Broadus. (D CIVIL DISTURBANCE, BULL STREET PARKING GARAGE The complainant said Andrew Tilson was sitting in the victim's car, blowing the horn and yelling. The complainant, the victim and Tilson had been arguing earlier. Scott Lewis of Judicial Affairs and Investigator Branham were noti fied. Reporting officer: J. Harrelson. ® VEHICLE BREAK-IN, LARCENY OF A HANDGUN, USC/WIS PARK ING LOT, GERVAIS AND BULL STREETS The victim said some one pried open the rear passen ger window of his Honda sedan and stole a Taurus .38 caliber re volver and a portable Sony CD player. Estimated value: $500. Reporting officers: C. Mount, J. Widdifield. Wednesday, June 9 O ASSISTANCE RENDERED, NURSING BUILDING, 1621 COL LEGE ST. Reporting officer Morant responded to the nursing building after two women got stuck on the elevator. Columbia Fire Department was called because one of the victims said she need ed medical attention. EMS also re sponded, but she wasn't taken to a hospital. The fire department damaged the elevator. □ DRIVING LEFT OF CENTER, DRI VING UNDER SUSPENSION, 1400 BLOCK GREENE STREET Reporting officer M.L. Gooding saw Ricardo Powell driving east in the west bound lane through the gates in front of the Russell House. Gooding pulled Powell over, and a DMV records check revealed Powell’s license was suspended due to excessive points. He was ar rested, and his car was towed to City Garage. ® MALICIOUS INJURY TO PER SONAL PROPERTY, PENDLETON STREET GARAGE The victim said someone somehow scratched the front passenger door of her green Chevy Lumina. Estimated dam age: $250. Reporting officer: A. Mitchell, M.L. Gooding. ©INFORMATION, CLEAN-UP, THOMAS COOPER LIBRARY, 1322 GREENE ST. The complainant said someone defecated and urinated on the mezzanine level of the Thomas Cooper Library. Custodial Services was called to clean up the mess. Reporting offi cer: W.R. Bond. Thursday, June 10 ® LARCENY OF PURSE, ASTRON OMY CENTER, 712 MAIN ST. The victim said someone stole her purse, which contained about $145. Reporting officer: B. Timbers. o INFORMATION, SIMPLE POS SESSION OF MARIJUANA, EAST QUAD, 1400 WHEAT ST. Reporting officers R. Baker and J.L. Meador responded to reports that some one in East Quad was smoking marijuana. The officers and an RA spoke to Johnson C. Wooten, who admitted to smoking marijuana. He gave the officers a small bag of what he said was marijuana. The officers destroyed the substance and referred the incident to Student Judicial Affairs. M SIMPLE ASSAULT, THOMAS COOPER LIBRARY, 1322 GREENE ST. The victim said Roopa Roja snatched a book from her hand, scratching her right arm in the process. She had no visible in juries and refused medical atten tion. Impact statements were tak en. Reporting officer: S. Alexander. Friday, June 11 ©ACT OF NATURE, BLATT P.E. CENTER PARKING LOT, 1328 WHEAT ST. The victim said her car was damaged by water due to flooding. There was visible dam age on the floorboards. Reporting officer: J. Harrelson. @ LARCENY OF HEDGETRIMMERS, SENATE STREET GARAGE, 1600 SENATE ST. The complainant said someone stole two orange Stihl hedgetrimmers locked inside a cage found unlocked but not tam pered with. Estimated value: $446. Reporting officer: T. Brewster. Saturday, June 12 @ GRAND LARCENY OF BACK HOE, SIGMA CHI HOUSE, 526 GADSDEN ST. The complainant said someone stole a bright yel low John Deere backhoe parked in front of the house. Estimated value: $30,000. Reporting officer: W.R. Bond. Sunday, June 13 © MALICIOUS INJURY TO PER SONAL PROPERTY, SOUTH QUAD, 500 SUMTER ST. The complainant said someone sprayed a dry chem ical fire extinguisher, causing the alarm to go off. Reporting officers M. Denard and J. Widdifield not ed damage to the fire extinguisher cabinet. He has received many awards for his ability as a musician and educator, including Outstanding Professor awards from Baylor University and Brevard College, the Order of the Palmetto, the Tuesday Musical Club and three honorary degrees. He has spoken at national and international conferences on high er education, leadership and the arts. He has published articles in such journals as Design for Arts in Education, Noteworthy and The American Music Teacher. In addi tion, Blocker edited “The Robert Shaw Reader,” a collection of writ ings by the famous American con ductor. He also appears regularly on radio and television. Blocker has served on the advi sory boards for the Gilmore Artist, the Stoeger Prize from Lincoln Center and the Avery Fisher Artist Program. During his time at UCLA, Blocker worked to improve California’s sagging economy as chairman of the Council of Deans. At Yale, Blocker helped raise the music school’s endowment fund $70 million and began reno vation of school buildings. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the Yale school of management. Blocker is one of a handful of candidates that brings “a depth and breadth of training, experi ence and vision that will mesh well with that of the faculty, staff and students of this university,” said James Augustine, a member of USC’s search committee, in a news release. He is competing with Mark Becker of the University of Minnesota, Linda Brady of North Carolina State University and Uday Sukhatme of State University of New York at Buffalo.
