group “refries” ideas, Refried
member and second-year English
student Aaron Mehaffey said.
“When someone gets an idea,
we share it with others,” Mehaffey
said. “Someone brings an idea to
the table, and everyone gives their
opinion.”
According to Markovich, net
working students who share an in
terest in film is one of Refried’s
primary objectives.
Steelman said the Refried net
work enables students to find
this year, and is considering two
scripts to produce during the sum
mer.
According to Steelman,
Refried’s best film was
“Followed,” a psychological hor
ror about campus living.
“It exposes the scary parts
about living on campus,”
Steelman said. “It follows a girl
walking from the Coliseum to
Capstone at night.”
Refried also produced an unti
tled public service announcement
for a national anti-teen pregnan
cy organization.
The third production, “Truly
Looks Like Love,” is an experi
mental piece, which records the
^^production crews
when filming.

Next year, Refried plans to play
host to a series of workshops for
students interested in filmmaking.
“At the workshops, we train
people with professional equip
ment and guide them through all
aspects of movie making,”
Markovich said.
Refried also produces scripts.
“We’re an extremely open
group, and we make any kind of
•movie,” Mehaffey said. “There are
whole lot of creative people out
there, and we get input from all
different creative angles.”

“The reception to ‘Followed’
was great. People really liked the
film,” Steelman said. “‘Truly
Looks Like Love’ received mixed
reviews.”
According to Markovich, the
scripts being considered for the
summer include a teen film and a
superhero film.
“The teen film involves a high
school student dealing with an
identity crisis,” Markovich said.
“He realizes he must deal with life

by either being creative or de

Mehaffey is'in the process of
writing the superhero script, ti
tled “Brainstorm.”
The story chronicles the trans
formation of a gawky boy who be
comes a superhero after receiv
ing telepathic and telekinetic
powers from an alien encounter.
“The superhero always gets to
be the big guy, and this glorifies
the nerds and geeks, who have the
smarts,” Mehaffey said.
Mehaffey said he relishes the
opportunity to actually produce
his idea.
“Refried is the first shot I’ve
had to make a movie,” he said. “I
always fantasized about it, and it’s
great to think you can really pull
it off.”
“Nothing is a substitute for real
film experience,” Markovich said.
“You must get on the field to deal
with the challenges.”
