Notes Harris named SEC Player of the Week LSU’s junior first baseman Clay Harris was named Player of the Week by the SEC Monday. Harris’s bat was on fire this week as he hit for an average of .467, connecting on 7-for-15. On the week, Harris had three home runs, one double, eight RBIs and six runs. He also led the Tigers to a se ries win over their division ri ^al Auburn, hitting 5-for-ll with two home runs and seven RBIs. After leading the SEC last year with 16 home runs, Harris came into last week with just one, only to hit a home run in three straight games to bring his total to four. Harris’s hit ting was also very timely for the Auburn game. On Friday, his home run in the top of the ninth inning was enough to send the game into extra innings, which led to an LSU win. On Saturday, Harris’s eighth inning home run would knot the contest at three before LSU would again pull away to a 5-3 win. Finally, in the last game of the series, Harris would break a seventh inning scoreless tie with an RBI single, leading LSU to a 3-2 series sweeping victory. Also, Georgia’s Will Startup was named Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Florida over the weekend. Startup earned two saves in the three-game sweep of the Gators. When Holtz was asked if the fullbacks were going to get the ball, he said no. “We can, but we haven’t,” Holtz said. “This role is more of a guard position we have sometimes when we can give them the ball, but if you’ve got a running play I’d rather put it under Gonzie (Gray) or Cory (Boyd) or Demetris (Summers) or Daccus’ (Turman) hands than I would one of those full backs. No, we can give them the ball and do some different things with them, but right now we have not explored that option.” USC will hit the practice field again Thursday.
