Bridges, who has a mile-long trek to class, agrees. “Even though it’s cold,” he said, “I walk to class instead of driving so that I don’t contribute to the parking problem. They exhib ited beautiful strength in their dancing and their unity; it is amaz ing that these girls could reach such a level of expertise while si multaneously pursuing their aca demic studies. The performance was smooth and virtually flawless. The last piece, “Grande Tartelle,” is an original ballet by Susan E. Anderson. In this dance, students performed pointe work while shaking tambourines, and Sarah Dickey and Sergei Chtyrkov engaged in a pas de deux. The girls impressed viewers with their tarn bourine-hitting grand battements. The high-spirited piece did not contain a dull moment; the on stage formations and dynamics proved eye-catching and exciting. Overall, the dance and music were colorful, but “Grande Tartelle” simply could not match the mastery and innovation exud ed by “Apollon.” Some of the dancers appeared worried as they . occasionally hit their tam-A bourines offbeat, but their danc™ ing remained confident and live ly. In all, both the USC Symphony and the Dance Company put on a fine showing of talent.
