DAY CRIMES (6a.m.-6 p.m.) □ Violent O Nonviolent NIGHT CRIMES (6 p.m.-6 a.m.) ■ Violent • Nonviolent CRIMES AT UNKNOWN HOURS 0 Violent ® Nonviolent Tuesday, Oct. 7 ® SHOPLIFTING, GIVING FALSE INFORMATION, RUSSELL HOUSE BOOK STORE, 1400 GREENE ST. The complainant said two witnesses saw Spivey C. McCray, William H. Hawkes, Vince D. Greene and Thomas Graham enter the textbook area of the store. The complainant said two of the subjects distracted one witness, while the other two attempted to steal text books. The witnesses said they thought their attention was being purposely diverted, and alerted their supervisor, who alerted reporting officers D. Pardue and B.J. Timbers. Outside the store, the officers approached the four subjects. McCray, who was carrying a blue book bag, dropped the bag and ran. Pardue chased him into the Bull Street Garage, where McCray got away. Pardue then returned to the Russell House patio area, where Timbers had detained the other three subjects. They claimed not to know McCray. Hawkes and Greene said they were students at Benedict College, while Graham said he was a USC student, which was later proved to be untrue, and Graham was issued a ticket. The reporting officers found four textbooks in the book bag, which were returned to the bookstore. Wednesday, Oct. 8 ® PETIT LARCENY OF MONEY, 101 PICKENS ST. The complainant said an unknown person stole her wallet from her bedroom. The wallet contained $200 in cash, a driver’s license, a Wachovia debit card and a USC ID. ® LARCENY OF LEAF BLOWER, BULL STREET GARAGE, 600 BULL ST. The complainant said someone stole one gas-powered leaf blower from a secured storage area. Estimated value: $300. Reporting officer: D. Pardue. Thursday, Oct. 9 O DISORDERLY CONDUCT, WILLIAMS-BRICE STADIUM, 1000 GEORGE ROGERS BLVD. (OFF MAP) Reporting officer K.T. Mitchum saw Bradley Aston Randolph falling down in the stands. Randolph refused to leave the stadium and was arrested. While handcuffed, Randolph continued to resist and had to be carried away by three officers. Reporting officer: K.T. Mitchum. Q DISORDERLY CONDUCT, WILLIAMS-BRICE STADIUM, 1000 GEORGE ROGERS BLVD. (OFF MAP) Richard Murray was trying to enter the stadium without a proper ticket. Murray was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. He was arrested. Reporting officer: J. Merrill. Friday, Oct. 10 O MALICIOUS INJURY TO PERSONAL PROPERTY, BULL STREET GARAGE, 600 BULL ST. The victim said someone broke the passenger’s-side window of her Mazda Protege, but she said nothing was missing. Reporting officer: R.A. Whitlock. ® SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY, 718 DEVINE ST. The complainant said someone moved a trailer from the incident location. He said two other trailers have been stolen from the same place. Reporting officer: J.L. Meador. O AUTO BREAK-IN, ATTEMPTED LARCENY FROM AUTO, BLOSSOM STREET GARAGE, 1300 BLOSSOM ST. The victim said someone entered his vehicle and rummaged through his belongings. He could not say if anything was missing. Reporting officer: Clinton. © LARCENY OF CREDIT CARDS, THOMAS COOPER LIBRARY, 1322 GREENE ST. The victim • said someone stole five credit cards from his wallet, which was returned as found property to the circulation desk. Reporting officer: K.A. Gilbert. (§) LARCENY OF EXHAUST FAN, USC DEPARTMENT OF RENOVATIONS, 743 GREENEST. The complainant said someone removed one exhaust fan from an unsecured area. Estimated value: $88. Reporting officer: K.A. Gilbert. ® LARCENY OF PURSE, GATEWAY ACADEMY, 1340 WHEAT ST. The victim was driving an unfamiliar car, and when she got out to drop a friend’s child off at the academy, she left her purse inside, thinking she had locked the door. Later, the victim went to CVS and realized her purse was missing. Inside the purse was a South Carolina driver’s license, a social security card and two ATM cards. Estimated value: $100. Reporting officer: B. J. Timbers. Saturday, Oct. 11 @ UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF PISTOL, DISREGARDING RAILROAD CROSSING, NO PROOF OF INSURANCE, NO PROOF OF OWNERSHIP, 718 DEVINE ST. Reporting officer D. Pardue saw Kenneth Foster James drive his burgundy 1994 Dodge van around an activated and lowered railroad crossing gate. Pardue pulled him over, and James provided his driver’s license but had no insurance card or vehicle registration. Officer Baker approached the subject’s vehicle on the passenger’s side and saw a child sitting in a child’s seat between the front driver’s seat and passenger’s seat, where James’ wife was sitting. Baker told James that that was not an acceptable form of transportation ior a cniia, ana James said the child’s seat was bolted to the van’s floor. The officers asked James’ wife to get out of the van so they could look closely at the child’s seat. She did, and Officer G. Kerwin noticed two large containers of gasoline in the van. Kerwin asked permission to search the area under and around the child’s seat. James refused, saying, “For what, drugs?” Kerwin said, “Yes.” James then said, “You cannot search, but bring on the dogs.” Kerwin called for a drug dog, and Richland County Sheriffs Deputy David Lucas soon arrived with a dog. The officers watched as James became increasingly nervous. The dog indicated three positive hits in the van, but no drugs were found. However, Lucas told the reporting officers that, based on the dog’s response, there had recently been drugs in the van. James was placed in investigative detention and handcuffed. A search under the van’s driver seat turned up a .22 caliber pistol. James said he had bought the gun from someone who needed money and that he had paid $50 for it. The reporting officers asked James if he was wanted or had ever been in trouble with the law, and he told them he was a convicted felon. A records check confirmed this. He was arrested, and his wife called a family member to take her and the child home. The van was surrendered to the family. James agreed to make a written statement and was transported to USCPD headquarters. <@ MALICIOUS INJURY TO PERSONAL PROPERTY, WILLIAMS-BRICE STADIUM, 1000 GEORGE ROGERS BLVD. (OFF MAP) Someone used a fire extinguisher and baby powder to draw a tiger paw on the gamecock at center field and to ' write the word “Clemson” between the 40- and 50-yard lines. The complainant said someone also used powder to draw a tiger paw in a restroom of the south end zone. The evidence was stored in a locker. Reporting officer: J. Hinson. <g> BURGLARY, LARCENY OF MONEY, WEST QUAD STORAGE BUILDING, SUMTER STREET The complainant said someone broke into a vending machine and took about $55 in cash and about $55 worth of candy. A hammer and screwdriver were found nearby and placed in an evidence locker. Photographs were taken. Reporting officer: J.L. Meador. Sunday, Oct. 12 @ LARCENY OF SCOOTER, MCBRYDE COURTYARD, 1313 BLOSSOM ST. The victim said someone stole his scooter from a railing in the courtyard. Estimated value: $600. Reporting officer: JX.
