The victim said someone caused damage to her vehicle, including dents and scratches to the left front. Estimated damage: $300. Reporting officer: J.M. Monday, Jan. 27 ® LARCENY OF TEXTBOOKS, CAPSTONE HOUSE, 902 BARNWELL ST. The victims said someone took three textbooks from their room. Estimated value: $151. Reporting officer: D. Reporting officer: Nu Beza. © LARCENY OF MONEY, SCHOOL OF LAW, 1112 GREENE ST. The complainant said someone took a cash box containing $20 from the School of Law. He said the room is usually secure but that the custodial staff found that a front door was unsecure. Estimated value: $20. Reporting officer: J.A. Henry. © ILLEGAL (THREATENING) USE OF A TELEPHONE, SOUTH TOWER, 614 BULL ST. The complainant said a male left a message on her answering machine threatening to physically harm her. Reporting officer: M.P. Craska. © SIMPLE POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA, DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, CAPSTONE HOUSE, 902 BARNWELL ST. Reporting officers J.D. Rosier and P. Jones responded to a complaint of drug use. There was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the room, and upon entering the room, the officers saw a multicolored pipe used to smoke marijuana. The pipe was still warm, and there was marijuana residue in it. Four bags of marijuana were found in the room. Germar B. Veits and Stanley P. Bray were arrested and taken to the Richland County Detention Center. Tuesday, Jan. 28 EE SUSPICIOUS FIRE, STONE STADIUM, 100 MARION ST. Officer G. Cox saw a fire on the hill near Stone Stadium, facing Sumter Street. Someone who was burning a newspaper caused the fire. The fire was extinguished, and an investigation of the area did not yield any results. Reporting officer: G. Cox. Several hundred people massed on the Capitol lawn to protest Bush’s policies, ranging from a possible war in Iraq to his ap proach to health care. The first half of Bush’s address was devoted to domestic policy, a reflection of his desire not to let Iraq overshadow a presidential agenda geared toward the 2004 re election campaign. The heart of Bush’s domestic agenda is his $674 billion plan to revive the economy and a $400 bil lion, 10-year plan to overhal Medicare. His plans also include medical liability, the environment and en ergy policy as well as efforts to help religious groups offer feder ally funded community services, aides said. Democrats challenged Bush’s efforts both at home and abroad. Washington Gov. Gary Locke, tapped to deliver the Democratic response to Bush, said that eco nomic recovery would not happen until states and cities receive help from Washington — something missing from Bush’s economic proposals. “People are clearly worried about terrorism and Iraq but those concerns should not over shadow the pressing needs of the people here at home,” Locke said.
