For those looking for an excuse to throw a party, Thanksgiving leftovers provide a great opportu nity to get the friends together for an evening of good eating. Whether the meal serves as a pseudo-Thanksgiving for those who were unable to travel home or is simply a second feast for school-wearied students, a home made dinner away from home is sure to brighten the holiday spirit. Those interested in playing Emeril for an evening can bring a cookbook back with their leftovers and treat a group — or just them selves — to an inventive take on traditional leftovers. Leftover veg etables can also be used to accen tuate school food or in the. prepa ration of other meals, such as stir fry or salad. Whether as a feast for friends or simply as delicacies for one to selfishly enjoy, the remnants of the year’s best cooking allow the take-out-food-laden college student to experience good eating on cam pus without channeling Martha Stewart. One of the album’s several stand-out tracks, Hand Me Down” proclaims, “Lay all your troubles down / lam with you now,” and aids in painting the album’s lyrical landscape with healing rather than retribu tion. Overall, “More Than You Think You Are” is more than many fans had expected. It show cases a band that has become not only more solid as a group but more involved as individuals. While its earlier releases fea Ik tured songs penned mainly Dy Thomas, the new album includes tracks written or co-written by the other band members. “More Than You Think You Are” solid ifies Matchbox Twenty’s reputa tion as able songwriters and per formers, proving there is such a thing as a pop band that writes its own songs — and writes them well.
