say the least. The film also co-stars
Meryl Streep.
Trekkies are anticipating the
release of “Star Trek: Nemesis”
on Dec. 13. The trailers hint this
could be the last voyage for the
cast of “The Next Generation.”
“The Lord of the Rings” series
will continue with “The Two
Towers,” opening Dec. 18. All
three of the series’s films cost a
total of $300 million, which was
recouped from the first film’s
earnings. That means the money
earned from “Towers” and
“Return of the King” is just
gravy.
Denzel Washington has his di
rectorial debut with “Antwone
Fisher,” which opens Dec. 20.
Also on the 20th is the romantic
comedy “Two Weeks Notice,”
starring Sandra Bullock and
Hugh Grant.
Christmas Day is one of the
biggest days of the year for movie
theaters. This year is no different.
Jack Nicholson is already win
ning rave reviews for his perfor
mance in “About Schmidt,” about
a man in his 60s who realizes he
has wasted his life.
Leonardo DiCaprio has two
films opening Christmas Day:
“Catch Me if You Can” co-starring
Tom Hanks and directed by
Steven Spielberg, and the highly
anticipated “Gangs of New York.”
There has been much controver
sy surrounding “Gangs,” but the
Martin Scorsese film is now ready
for release.
Another Hollywood Christmas
present will be Edward Norton
starring in Spike Lee’s “The 25th
Hour,” about a man spending his
last night before he goes to prison
for seven years.
Rounding out the holiday season
will be the film version of the mu
sical “Chicago” on Dec. 27. It stars
Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee
Zellwegger and Richard Gere, and
the trailers look outstanding.
One only wonders whether
these films will live up to the
hype.

Pierce
Brosnan stars
as James
Bond in
MGM's “Die
I Another Day,”
which opens
Friday. “Die
Another Day”
is the 20th
Bond film,
and the fourth
film in which
Brosnan has
played the
role of Bond.
