AKINTUNDE: Comedy House Theater, 14 Berryhill Road A SINGLE STEP WITH GUITAR SHOW AND FIVE STORIES HIGH: 9 p.m. New Brookland Tavern. hd' Thirteen CONTINUED FROM PAGE 5 brilliant, and while DuVall has done many films, this is the first where she really comes into her own as an actress. McConaughey reminds us that we let films like “Reign of Fire” slip by so that he can have the money to participate in thoughtful films such as this. And the brightest among ail these is Arkin, who creates a real per son right there on the screen. The film delivers its philoso phy through these beautifully told stories, and that is perhaps what makes it interesting, not only as good film but also as good philosophy. While it seems that the film’s focus is on random twists of fate that could destroy us at any time, these events are balanced with fortuitous turns of chance such as bumping into the woman of your dreams. So, where is this magical road to happiness? The movie doesn’t really come out and say. it’s left to us to find out, but I’m pretty sure it lies somewhere in the mar gins. Just look really closely.
