Despite the Series loss, Tanner laud

there’s only two teams playing base
ball today, and I'm proud wfe were
one of them.”
It was Tanner's first career-trip
to Omaha. He vowed never to at

The Gamecocks returned
from Omaha on Sunday after
noon and approximately 2,500
fans greeted the team at Sarge
Frye Field.
Tanner told the crowd that he al

"Today we begin our quest to do it
again."

However, the Carolina starting

Reliving college life
BY ANGEL SIZEMORE
THE GAMECOCK
Whereas many students at USC
are looking forward to, and I quote,
"Getting the hell out of this joint,
ASAP," last week's highly-success
ful Alumni University proves that
college life really is an event to trea
sure and experience again. Each
year, graduates of the past are in
vited back to relive their days as un
dergrads by participating in class
es for four days... "with the promise
of no homework!"
The cost is $250 per person,
which includes "all seminars, ac
tivities, materials, tours and most
meals.” Reduced rates are also
made available to the returning
graduates at the Clarion Town
House Hotel and Suites on Gervais
Street.
The four-day event began on
June 19 and ended on June 22.
Among many other interesting top

Liberal Arts junior Ryan Hodge
echoed the sentiments of many of
his classmates. Like many students,
he wonders about the necessity of
such drastic tuition increases when
so many building projects are going
on throughout campus, such as the
new arena and physical education
center. "Is that the only way they
can maintain facilities?" Hodge
said. "It seems like they're doing all
right if they're building all this."
The university's budget also in
cludes increasing tuition to USC's
regional campuses by 28 percent
and increasing tuition to the USC
school of Medicine and Law School
by 20 percent.

Freshmen and parents ask questions during orientation.
USC is not the only school in
South Carolina that will be raising
tuition for the fall. Clemson
University has announced a 15 per
cent increase for the upcoming
semester, while the College of
Charleston is expected to increase
its tuition by 20 percent.
