BRIEFLY Memorial service to be held Thursday A memorial service for former USC student Traci Heincelman will be held on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Rutledge Chapel. The ser vice, open to the student body and general public, was organized by Heincelman’s friends and family. Heincelman died in a car ac cident while on vacation during spring break. She was a fourth year marine science student. Editor lectures on women’s finances Financial analyst and writer i Kate Bohner will lecture at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, on how women can take charge of their finances. The talk, sponsored by USC’s Women’s Studies Program and First Citizens Bank, will be in the Belk Auditorium of the Moore School of Business. Bohner is the managing edi tor of E-Trade’s digital financial media. She will discuss financial problems and opportunities women face. Her lecture is aimed at women who want to be financially independent and knowledgeable. Bohner is a former reporter for CNBC’s Power Lunch. She co-wrote with Donald Trump “The Art of the Comeback,” which topped the New York Times and Wall Street Journal’s best seller lists. A reception will be held afterward. The free event is open to the public. Student named woman of the year Fourth-year print journalism student Martha Wright was named Outstanding Woman of the Year by the USC Student Life Department as part of an annu al commemoration of Women’s History Month. Wright was honored in a cer emony Friday. A panel of faculty and staff judges selected her for the award. Wright has been the editor in chief of both The Gamecock and Garnet and Black magazine dur ing her time at USC. She is a Carolina Scholar, National Merit Scholar and former president of the USC Women Students’ Association. Finance students selected for award Fourth-year corporate finance student Robin Poston and third year accounting and finance stu dent Joe Maxim have been awarded State Farm Companies Foundation Exceptional Student Fellowships. The foundation presents fel lowships to help college students prepare for leadership roles in business and society and stimu late insurance-related research. Poston is the president of the Golden Key National Honor Society and vice president of the Investment of the Financial Management Association. She is also a member of Mortar Board, Phi Beta Ka^pa, Gamma Beta Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma. She is planning on pur suing a master’s degree in busi ness administration at Wofford College in the fall. Maxim, an Honors College student, is a resident adviser and an InterVarsity Christian Fellowship coordinator. He is an Eagle Scout and a Poetry.com Poet of Merit nominee. Three students get Target scholarships Target awarded scholarships to three USC students for dedi cation to community service and education. Second-year international studies and Spanish student Ann Hardman was one of the re cipients. She is also secretary of Alpha Lambda Delta and a mem ber of the Carolina Student Judicial Council. Second-year accounting and Honors College student Sarah Ross also received the scholar ship. She is also a McNair Scholar and a Community Service Leadership Team leader. Pharmacy doctoral student Joni Muller is also a SCHC stu dent. She volunteers with her church’s choir and summer camp for children. She conducts cardiovascular disease preven tion research under Dennis Shepard of the Prevention Research Center.
