No one would suspect that this little place would end up taking the place of the Elbow Room as the only concert venue in Columbia with local, regional and national draw. Mac’s is a jazz and blues club, and as owner Fatback says, it’s not a traditional concert hall. “We’re not a rock and roll club or a punk club,” Fatback says. “We have a really nice niche market. We don’t cater to people who just want to drink and play pool. We’re a i restaurant, and we want to be a place where you can take your date, you know, for Valentine’s Day and have a good meal.” Most of the venue’s calendar is filled with local jazz and blues acts with no admission charge. The rest is filled with the best jazz and blues acts from all over the country with an admission fee of $5 to $10 dollars, ensuring that great live music can be found any day of the week. With acts from Louisiana, Connecticut and even Canada dropping by in the next few months, Mac’s is the only spot to catch a touring group within the capital city, perhaps for years to come. Acts that have stopped by at Mac’s include Shirley King, daughter of blues legend B.B. King; Maurici Williams and the Zodiacs, nationally renowned beac music band; and Uncle Vi a fusion jazz band out of Maryland. Other acts include Superchicken, Bo Mongul, Skip Pearson's Jazz, and Billy Scott and t Prophets. On the wall are picture of all the acts and legends that have made appearances at the restaurant. There are autographed pictures of Ray Charles, who stopped in last year to the amazement of a star-stru crowd, and Ike Turner, wi came by to enjoy the atmosphere on his way through Columbia. beam the Dances of your choice: <§6tea, §hag 8 More Ifs fun, easy @ can be O^nirw^H forever. 2 Devine Street imbia, SC 29205 3 799" Certificates Available .I. ■■ ...
