Holtz’s arrival sold 52,500 tickets, but as the Gamecocks’ 0-11 season progressed, many season-ticket holders placed theirs up for sale. Student tickets were also returned for sale to the general'public. However, judging from the surge of excitment generated from preseason rankings and All-America selections the past few weeks, there won’t be any returned tickets to worry about in 2001. “It’s going to be almost impossible to find single game tickets,” Barber said. “If any get returned from student distribution or the away allotment, we’re talking about 20 or 30, not hundreds.” Gamecock Club members are usually given first priority on season tickets, and there was no exception this year. However, due to the large demand, half-scholarship members ($650 per year) received season tickets that * didn’t include the Clemson game. “There were between 800-1,000 people who joined but couldn’t get the Clemson ticket,” Barber said. “We have an agreement with Clemson to give 12,000 tickets to each other every year.” Despite the difficulty meeting demand, Barber and Massaro, as well as some USC fans, see this as a good problem to have. “We sold out that stadium when we were 0-11,” USC fan Deborah Parkins said. “This season is going to be so great, I’ve already got my hotel reservations in Pasadena.” “I’ve heard of some fans who made reservations for the Rose Bowl,” Massaro said. “It’s going to be pretty exciting.” Massaro pointed out that if someone has missed out on a season ticket, all is not lost. Although it’s a slim chance, some tickets may get returned from student distribution or some of the smaller opponents USC plays. “We give 11,500 to the students,” Massaro said. “The visiting teams get different numbers, depending on who they are. Wadley could have applied for a WADLEY medical redshirt for the season, meaning he possibly could have played for the 2002 Gamecocks. However, Wadley declined the offer. I Bradley, Team USA cruise into semifinals Staff Reports The Gamecock Gamecock senior Jamel Bradley, leading Team USA in scoring, helped pace the U.S. Deaflympics basketball team to two blowout wins this week to advance to the semifinals of the medal round. The team is picked to win the gold medal later this week. Bradley poured in 17 points in the U.S.’s 117-54 victory over Ukraine last week to advance to the first round of medal play. The performance boosted Bradley’s scoring average to 17.3 points per game, the leader among TeamUSA. The U.S. squad used a fast-break offense and tight, full-court press defense to defeat Ukraine, but the physical brand of play was hardly necessary as the U.S. rolled to their third straight win. Darnell Woods and Dee Brown each contributed seven points as .Team USA continuously wore down Ukraine, allowing only 11 points in the final 10 minutes. Henry Dorsey was the USA’s top scorer with 18 points. Boosted by a 41-2 second quarter blowout, Team USA defeated Germany 101-42 in the quarterfinals of the 19th Deafly mpics late Saturday. The U.S. advanced to the semifinals in medal round action, taking on the Italy-Lithuania winner early Monday. Bradley finished with 19 points and led the TeamUSA’s defensive effort with five steals and a blocked shot. As in the previous three games, TeamUSA started slowly in the first quarter, but followed with an offensive outburst in thesecond. The USA defense allowed only one field goal inthe second quarter, and allowed an average of only five field goals per quarter in the game. USA’s stubborn defense also resulted in several shot clock violations and a high percentage of missed shots and turnovers from Germany. The U.S. recorded a Deaflympics-high 15 steals in the contest. Kevin Smith’s 21 points were boosted by a game-high five three pointers, two each in the second and fourth quarters. DeAngelo Brown and Frank Jackson contributed 10 points, and Mark Hedrick rounded off the double-digit offensive performance ofUSA with 11 points. “We contiriue to improve on our defense daily, and we will still continue to improve as we continue playing,” head coach James DeStefano said. Special to The Gamecock Jamel Bradley had two more big games in two TeamUSA victories. by David Cloninger The Gamecock Following the success of the 2000 football season, the USC Athletics Department knew it would probably have a huge demand for 2001 season tickets, but this is ridiculous. For the first time, USC has no single tickets available for the general public for any of its seven home games. The Gamecock Club, charged with keeping track of USC’s massive booster membership, admits to being overwhelmed by the demand. “Coming off an 8-4 season and an Outback Bowl win has been a big boost,” Gamecock Club Executive Director Jeff Barber said. “We’ve got 1,400 new members and had to return 2,500 season ticket requests.” Not only has the 80,250-seat Williams Brice Stadium been completely sold out, but the Gamecocks’ allotment of tickets for games at Georgia and Tennessee have also been taken. Tickets still remain for USC’s games at Mississippi State and Arkansas. “I’ve been here 16 years and never seen anything like it,” senior associate athletics
