“(Ehe (5 am rack Get your FIXX online from housing by Brandon Larrabee The Gamecock Students can now make maintenance requests on the Web with FIXX online, a new service from the Department of Housing. The maintenance Web site, which debuted Monday, can be accessed at www.housing.sc.edu/form4.asp. “We wanted to be able to make this a choice for the students,” said Ernest Pringle, assistant director for information resources at housing. Under the old system, students would call 777-FIXX or stop by the housing office to make a maintenance request. He said the new service would be “a lot more convenient” for students, al lowing them to access the system with out being near a phone or going to the housing office. The system also allows stu dents to make a request when they’re off campus, Pringle said. “I think the convenience will be the major, major benefit for students,” he said. Pringle said there was no real difference in how the system works once the request is in. When a request is received, it’s routed through the help desk to the appropriate maintenance supervisor, Pringle said. Online requests will likely take about the same amount of time as phone requests — usually 24 to 48 hours. The new site went through a variety of tests to make sure it wouldn’t crash, Pringle said. Tests included sending multiple re quests, submitting blank requests and a test where housing “bombarded the sys tem with as many requests as we could,” Pringle said. He said housing was confident the site could handle student traffic, but it could be upgraded if necessary. “We’re not really concerned about the traffic at this point,” he said.
