Film is a young person's game, ac cording to Lester. “I always said that if I went into a cinema and looked around and thought everyone was a hamster with a very fast metabolism anxious for the next cut, and I'm out of sync with them, that would be the time for me to stop," he said. Advances in technology perplex him, he admits. “I always used to ed it by having bits of film round my neck, looking for bits that we had cut out of it, two frames lying on the floor some where. Nowadays a 19-year-old will say, “You want green?' And he makes it green. Or, “Don't worry about that police car. I'll get rid of it later.' And that's so foreign to me. I think my time is over. King Chango mixes Latin, other influences in latest CD by Zeina Makky The Gamecock ■S> ☆ OUT OF ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Looking at the cover of “The Return of El Santo” would probably be enough to figurta out what kind of music El Chango plays — colorful and modem Latin music. The content of the CD confirms its packaging. King Chango’s music is col orful and upbeat. Mixing Latin with ska, reggae, rap, punk-rock, dub and even a little bit of drum ‘n’ bass. All these inf uences are combined in a very interesting melting pot (which, by the way, was the name of their first LP). They sing in Spanish as well as in Eng lish. The last track, “Champion Sounds,” goes further in the international mixing, incorporating strings and Eastern influ ences. Homs and wah-wah guitars accom pany effervescent melodies. The Chango clan is clearly having fun. There are a few slower songs on the CD too, but the essence remains the same. Look out for “Tuvera D-trip,” one of the best songs on this album, whose ambient and drum ‘n’ bass incorporations make it an absolute delight. “What Politicians Say” and “Cham pion Sound” are great songs.
