Bait soundtrack only for fans of hardcore rap and rhythm & blues by Phil Watson The Gamecock & -fr & OUT OF -ft & * Various Artists Music from the motion picture “Bait” Tie one on and get laid back for the soundtrack to “Bait”; it’s in full force. The album starts with a new song called “Free” by Mya. This swanky R&B track serves as a smooth introduction to a CD full of other R&B and rap songs destined to be hits. The brightest stars emerging on this album are Cuban Link and Fat Joe. Their rap track “Why Me?” is a classic angry rap song, with Fat Joe dissing everyone from the judge who sen tenced him, to the policeman who arrested him. The song has a great beat and sounds a little like Cypress Hill. It’s the kind of song you’d want to listen to while you’re running from the police, trying to stuff a bag of crack down your underpants. Scarface, an old rap icon, has a new song “Took the bait,” featuring Dangerous. It is another hard-hitting song to pump through the Vegas in the trunk of your Impala. An emeiging group, Total has a song called “Quick Rush” ----- i that uses Missy Elliot, who helps make it the most an- C noying track. She has to be the most horrific of all the female rappers, for her voice is neither innova tive nor magestic; it’s hideous. Major Figgas makes up for this disappointment with “I Love Being a Gangsta,” which has everything one could want from a rap song, including guns, low riders and bitches. Trick Daddy, a favorite father figure for many rap fans, con tributes a hot track, “Can’t F**k with Me,” to this soundtrack. This gut-wrenching violent song of hate will impress everyone walking on the street who hears the car blasting it. It’s a great way to make new friends, for who can resist loud rap? The “Bait” soundtrack isn’t for everyone; it’s strictly for fans of hard-hitting rap and easygoing R&B. With lots of new ■ artists showing off their skills, however, it’s definitely some thing to check out.
