If they say one year, they really mean four. What are we supposed to about parking until then? Finally, the Greek Village will be built behind the Wellness Center. I have been told that there will be limited park ing at the Village, so where do you think Greeks are going to park? Since this campus is constantly ex panding, before we know it perimeter parking could end up in Cayce. Who knows, University Commons could even tually be considered “on-campus.” And the shuttlecocks will still suck. Now onto the parking garages. Why are the garages limited to only five lev els? We can have dorms that have 15 floors, but the garages can only be five? Does anyone else see a problem here? If the University would build taller garages that would greatly decrease the parking problem. OK, another problem is with the pay garages. Now when you pull in and get your ticket, the sign reads 50 cents per hour, or $15 per day. Now, wait a sec ond, you only have to pay in the garage from 7 to 8p.m. I am no math wizard, but even I can calculate that 50 cents an hour for 13 hours is $6.50. Where the hell are they getting $ 15 from? Oh wait. I know, the university is just trying to suck even more money out of us poor college students. They charge us for a parking sticker, we must pay for meter parking, then we have to pay to park in the Bull Street garage As a few Gamecock staffers and I found out Monday night, the Bull Street parking garage has changed its policy of pay parking between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to pay parking until 8 p.m. Now, park ing services didn’t notify anyone of this change, which I think is illegal, but I’m not sure. All of this is more than enough to make me scream, “Screw green space, I want a place to park my car!” Wanna write a guest column for the Viewpoints section? Yeah, you know you do. Social Issues NRA restaurant fun for the family I was riding around Tues day when I saw a bumper sticker that said “Charlton Heston is my president.” Of all the retard ed bumper stick ers in the world, this one might be the worst. To quote Adam San dler, “Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?” nuw, yuu might like Ted Nugent. Personally, I think he sucks. I find him humorous, especially his whin ing banter about how it is necessary for him to hunt exotic animals with flam ing arrows to feed his poor starving fam ily. Boo-hoo, Ted. Why don’t you just ad mit it, you like to kill things. Don’t sweat the urge, it’s natural... for a Neanderthal. The National Rifle Association is opening a theme restaurant in New York City. New York is one of the most lib eral cities in the world and they think a restaurant with rifles and the stuffed heads of animals gracing its walls will succeed somehow? 1 don’t know what Charlton Heston and the nest of the NRA are smok ing, but the idea of them opening a theme restaurant is ridiculous. The location is just the icing on the cake. What will the menus have as the spe cials? Nugent buffalo nugget flambe? Charlton Heston grilled gorilla? Will the food be full of buckshot? Will all the en trees be numbered after NASCAR dri vers? The only people I can imagine stop ping in for a bite to eat there are serial killers, psychotic gun-toting wannabe rev olutionaries and people in the “big city” on vacation from Dispshit, Ala. “Look, Vem! We can shoot stuff in there!” And, boy, what fun it will be for the whole family. There will probably be an arcade featuring the old Nintendo clas sic Duck Hunt, along with an assortment of fishin’ and racin’ games. I bet you’ll be able to shoot, skeet and ride electric bulls and there will even be a shooting range, with targets glued on the chests of liberal hippie mannequins. Of course, the restaurant will be “fun for the whole family.” Well, you’d have to be a pretty dysfunctional family to eat there, in this age of school shootings and gun violence among today’s youth. To the best of my knowledge, this will be the first theme restaurant based around the act of killing. But maybe not the last. The serial killer cafe is just around the comer, people. That way, we can idol ize those who kill other human beings. Animals don’t have feelings anyway, right? Yes, I eat meat. I am not going to stop eating meat. But I will not support an or ganization that is obsessed with killing as their ‘sport’ of choice. Hey, there is an argument to be made about racing and wrestling and whether either of them are really a ‘sport.’ But there is no question in my mind that killing is killing, plain and simple. People are free to hunt. I cannot and would not do anything to take away that right. I would restrict it more, yes, but I would not take it away. But I will always feel sony for a dead deer on some guy’s roof rack. If the hunted could on ly shoot guns, it would be a much big ger challenge, especially considering that hunters are easy to spot in bright orange jumpsuits. That way, maybe hunting would be a sport. If there is any irony in this world, the NRA restaurant will be shut down for serving people....PEOPLE!!! Pete Johnson is a journalism senior and view-1 points editor.
