Es tablished in 1944, USC Press publishes 60 books each year. The press’ most re cent edition is James Everett Kibler’s “Our Fathers’ Fields.” •The Thomas Cooper Library has been ranked 47th in the United States by the Association of Research Libraries, which represent the laigest and most prestigious college, university and public libraries in the U.S. and Canada. USC tops LSU, Brown, MIT, Purdue, Florida State, Ohio, Tennessee, Nebras ka, Connecticut, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and SUNY-Buffalo. •USC’s College ofNursing has been designated one of seven national research centers by the National Institutes of Health. As part of that designation, the college lias received a $ 1.4 million grant from NIH to conduct research that will improve the lives of South Car olinians. Campus recreation keeps USC in shape For the active student, the USC Office of Campus Recre ation offers intramural sports, fitness programs, cardiovascu lar equipment, a swimming pool, weight rooms and sports clubs. Sports clubs are formed by students who share a com mon interest in a specific sport, recreational or physical ac tivity. They are registered student oiganizations that meet the needs of those with interests outside of the structured pro grams of intramural sports or intercollegiate athletics. Some of the sports clubs at USC are Columbia Ballroom Dance, Fencing, Lacrosse, Mountaineering and Whitewater, Rugby, Carolina Bodybuilding and Fitness, Judo, Scuba, Ulti mate Frisbee, Seidokan Aikido, Women’s Field Hockey, Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Rugby, Wrestling and World Tae Kwon Do. With more than 11,000 participants, Intramural Sports is one of the laiger pregrams offered at the university. Team sports such as flag football, softball, soccer, basketball and volleyball are divided into leagues for men, women and co-recreational. Additionally, divisions are offered for fraternities, sororities, residence halls and men’s and women’s open leagues. Dual/individual sports like tennis, racquetball, table ten nis and badminton are offered, as well. The aerobics program, offered by Campus Recreation Fit ness Programs, is one of the most dynamic programs at the uni versity. Participants of all fitness levels can choose from a va riety of classes offered each week including step, kickboxing and water aerobics.
