However, the official opinion might
, lean more toward traditionally held male
dominated views.
Rachel cited the pope as an example,
saying he’s the dominant figure in the
Catholic system.
She identified four women in the
Catholic faith who she believes are role
models: the Virgin Mary, Joan of Arc,
Mother Teresa and Dorothy Kazel, a per
sonal figure from her hometown who was
murdered while serving as a missionary
in El Salvador.
Susan Aude Fisher represented the
Bahai faith.
Only 156 years old, the Bahai faith is
the newest denomination of Christian re
ligion.
According to Fisher, Bahai stresses
the “essential oneness of all major reli
gions.”
Unlike other religions, the young faith
of 6 million believers has managed to re
main united diroughout its history, avoid
ing division and sects.
Great emphasis is placed on the equal
ity of men and women, as Bahais believe
that gender equality is the key to world
peace, Fisher said.
The goal is to foster unity witliin the
family in order to promote equality be
tween men and women.
Baha’u’llah, the founder of the Bahai
faith, uiges the followers to “avoid poli
tics like the plague,” Fisher said.
In general, this religion abstains from
active involvement in politics.
However, they’re officially recog
nized by the United Nations for their work
done to benefit world peace and human
rights.
Victoria Keaton represented the idea
of nondenominational Christianity.
“I think I am a Christian, but most
Christians don’t think so,” she said.
Keaton centers her spiritual life on
the teachings of St. Jermaine.
According to Keaton, those teachings
are “not to judge, criticize or condemn
any part of life.”
In relation to women being repre
sented in her faith, Keaton said the female
deities outnumber the males, adding that
she incorporates aspects of different re
ligions into her own views.
Her faith isn’t politically active, as it
views everyone only as spirits, not as men
and women.
National Women’s History Month of

Fellowships and Summer Programs
Assistant Director Jan Phillips agreed with
Hem.
“There are so many benefits to the
process of applying - self reflection and
clarification of one’s future plans, plus
better preparation for both job applica

Phillips said.
Beginning in late March and contin

“East Quad is open to all students, and
we regularly try to integrate different stu
dents in our housing community,” Assis
tant Housing Director Andy Fink said.
Luna said South Quad East should at

“When we provide the right housing,
we find students prefer to live on cam

Besides residence hall construction,
Housing is also planning a number of ren

This summer, those plans include up
grading all residence-hall computer labs,
renovating and refurnishing Bates West,
and painting and putting new carpet in
Douglas and Snowden. Other plans in
