_ Gamecock Sports_ Women's tennis wins fifth straight Tennis Roundup Gamecock Sports The 13th-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team won for the fifth consecutive time Sunday as they knocked off No. 48 Georgia Tech 6-2 af the In door Tennis Center on the USC campus. Carolina (5-0) swept all three dou bles matches from the Yellow Jackets (2 1), as 14th-ranked Katarina Markovski and Jennifer Radman beat Bobbi Guthne and Sabrina Pardo, 9-7. 42nd-ranked Leigh Echelberger and Lynn-Yin Tan defeated the team of Mysti Morris and Jaime Wong, 8-2. Carolina’s duo of Kathy Boyanovich and Tamara Sutton completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Laura Ozolins and Charlotte Pemet. In single’s action, USC’s 25th-ranked Markovski beat Pardo 6-2,6-2 while 48th ranked Radman defeated Pardo at No. 2 singles, 64,6-1. ticneioeiger won ior me second ume in singles play this spring as she held off Mysti Morris 6-4,6-1. Tan was the oth er winner for Carolina as she beat Ozolins 6-1,6-3 at the No. 5 spot. Georgia Tech’s Wong beat 99th ranked Tamara Sutton, 6-1, 6-0-and Pemet outlasted Boyanovich 6-2, 2-6,1 0(10-5). This marks Boyanovich’s first loss at the collegiate level, as she is now 4-1 (sin gles) and 5-0 (doubles). The Gamecocks will travel to Madi son, Wise., this weekend for the Nation al Team Indoor Championship, a presti gious event that boasts a field featuring 12 of the country’s top 15 teams. The Gamecocks host their only home indoor meet of the year next Saturday, Feb. 19. The women are ranked No. 2 nationally, while the men sit at No. O.Lynette Keppeler won the shot put with a personal-best toss of 50' 7 1/4, bettering her NCAA mark. Senior Ellakisha Williamson won the 60m hurdles with a school-record time of 8.26 - bettering her NCAA provisional mark. Teammate Jackie Madison was the runner-up with a personal best and NCAA provisional mark of 8.35. Sophomore Mechelle Lewis won the 60m dash, lowering her NCAA provisional time to 7.41. Teammate senior Rodena Barr was second at 7.45, and freshman Takoya Thomas was third at 7.51. Barr later finished second in the triple jump at 41' 11 1/4. Patrick Tvarkunas improved his NCAA provisional mark of 17' 7 in the pole vault, finishing fourth. Sophomore Me'Lisa Barber bettered her NCAA provisional time in the 200m to finish third at 23.82. Lewis was later fourth in the 200m (23.88). Kristina Brown was third in the 800m, running a season-best time of 2:11.30. The women's 4x400m relay continued its unbeaten streak as the nation's fastest re lay, posting a time of 3:41.34. On the men's side, the Gamecocks won the same re lay at 3:12.09. Antoinette Wrlks jumped 20' 6 1/2 to win the long jump. Mamee Groves was the runner-up in the 201b. weight with a personal best of 55' 1. Jamie Price was seventh in the 200m at 21.46 - a season best. Corey Taylor was fourt in the 60m hurdles at 7.99.
