Sophomore guard Jamel Bradley scored 14 for South Carolina, includ ing four 3-pointers, while freshmen Marius Petravicius and Chuck Eidson each scored 13. Kentucky played its first game without reserve forward/center Jules Camara, who will miss up to four weeks with a foot injury. Freshman Marvin Stone, who played 17 minutes in Ca mara’s absence, scored four points and grabbed three rebounds but turned the : ball over three times. South Carolina stayed close by mak ing 11 of 32 3-pointers. The Game cocks trailed only 65-60 with 5:26 re maining, but they were outscored 11-3 by the Wildcats down the stretch. It was the same story for the Game cocks, who hung close but lost their eighth straight game. USC has played eight ranked opponents in its last 10 games, losing by an average of seven points in each contest. With the score tied at 39 and 15:30 remaining, the Wildcats went ahead on two of Jamaal Magloire’s 11 free throws. The 10 seconds that followed were the Gamecocks’ undoing. First, Kentucky’s Saul Smith tipped the subsequent inbounds pass to Stone, who slammed it home. Then, as South Carolina tried to bring the ball upcourt, Wildcat fresh man guard Keith Bogans stole the ball and charged for a dunk and a 45-39 lead with 15:20 left. The Gamecocks would get no clos er than two points (at 50-48) the rest of the way. Kentucky, which has won 13 of the last 14 games, looked like it would put the game away early, taking a 15-7 lead as Magloire scored eight points. But South Carolina rallied with a string of threes by Bradley, Eidson, Travis Kraft and Antonio Grant, tying the score at 26 on a 3-pointer by David Ross with 7:35 left in the first half. The Gamecocks later led at sever al points during the end of the first half and started off the second before Ken tucky took the lead for good.
