No, I'm not talking ^lllPllR* about Shawn Singleton. David Cloninger I'm talking about the From the Cockpit other guy who writes highly questionable columns, thanks to some kind of flaw in my editor's reasoning. OK, so I'm not that well-known. I can deal with not being a household name. After all, I've been a USC fan for 20 years. Rejection and degradation are second nature to me. Anyway, instead of lamenting more lost basketball games, I thought I'd change pace and write about something actually pleasing to the reader. This Saturday is the final home game for five USC seniors, and it's sure to be a grand affair. However, the game might take away from the main focus of Saturday ? BJ McKie will make his final appearance at Frank McGuire Arena. McKie will leave as USC's all-time leading scorer, a three-time All-SEC player and the 1996 SEC Freshman of the Year, and with an SEC Championship ring on his finger, among other accolades. However, according to a report released Tuesday, his number will not be retired at the game. Apparently there's a new policy that says . McKie will have to wait five years before seeing his number dangling from the Coliseum rafters. The idea was dreamed up by the USC athletic department (who else?) because they didn't want to make "an emotional decision." Let's break this down. \ nf-Tr* xi *11 ? j r> l* r x l iviciue uirineu every Carolina ian in uie state when he decided to play ball here instead of takard photo Editor mg offers from the likes of Clemson, N.C.
